It is time for another progress update! Week 3 of the $100 Room Challenge is behind us and I FINALLY HAVE A PAINTED CLOSET! Other than finishing the wallpaper, we haven’t physically done much else to the space…yet.
In case you missed the first two weeks of the $100 room challenge, check them out here:
Behold, the faux wallpaper! And it only took 6+ hours to finish. Was it worth it? Yes! It literally cost me about $7 to do and all I needed was paint and a paintbrush. Would you do it again? Honestly, I don’t know. If I had the budget to purchase the wallpaper I think I would because I do think my time is valuable. That is not to say that I don’t like how it turned out. I think it is a great alternative to wallpaper and let’s be honest, wallpaper is flippin’ expensive. If you’re looking for a good DIY that requires next to no materials, this is your jam.
In other news, we bought this dresser from Ikea with the hopes of repainting it to be used as temporary storage until we are able to do the built-ins.
Then I decided I didn’t love the dresser so why waste money on something that you don’t love? We will return it this weekend to get our $35 back and put that towards the wood that will be used for the shelving. Plus, I have my eye on this dresser so once we have it in our budget to purchase, I will buy 2 and make some cool DIY drawer-pulls to add something unique to the space.
So far we have spent:
- $2.94 on sample paint for “wallpaper”
- $4.97 on paint brushes
- $5.95 on thrifted basket
I would love to know: Do you save the money until you can purchase what you really love and go without for a bit, or do you resonate more with spending little money now to purchase something to get by? comment below!
