Time for a quick $100 room challenge update! In last week’s post I introduced that we are refreshing the guest bedroom closet for under $100 as part of the $100 Room Challenge hosted by Lemons, Lavender, and Laundry. Surprise! I have already deviated from my original plan.
We had planned on doing built in storage around two dressers but we soon realized that it wasn’t the smartest choice given that we plan on ripping out the carpet and replacing it with hardwoods. If we did built ins over the carpet now, we would have to rip it all out to clear the floors in preparation for the hardwood install later. Our solution? Just a simple dresser for now and build it up later. We still plan on doing shelving but it will be only on the sides of the closet and the top.
I also came across this wallpaper from target but unfortunately it would put me at $90 to wallpaper the whole closet. I debated quite a bit between hand painting my own pattern or using one roll at $30 and just covering the sides. After I really thought about it I felt strongly that if I only did the sides I would be disappointed that I couldn’t do the whole closet. So… I spent the weekend hand painting the dots. Yep, I have put about 5 total hours and I am about 75% done. This is a labor of love.
I realize that people may think I am crazy for hand painting the dots but I’ll do anything to save a dollar for this challenge. I used Behr paint in flat black and a small artist brush bringing me to a total of $8.38! Much better than the $30 wallpaper.
This week I plan on finishing the wall and painting the dresser we picked up from IKEA over the weekend. Stay tuned for week 3 progress!
